Chairman, Nigerian Bar Association, Owerri branch, Lawrence Nwakaeti, has berated Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, for demolishing the building belonging to a former Minister of Interior, Capt. Emmanuel Iheanacho, for the second time in the guise of urban renewal project embarked upon by his government within the Owerri capital city.
Nwakaeti, who stated this in an interview, with journalists in Owerri, described the act as ‘petty’, adding that such proved that Okorocha was on vendetta mission against the former minister, who also contested the governorship during the 2015 general elections.
He said, “I am not holding brief for Captain Iheanacho; but I was told that he went to court to stop the government from demolishing his property. The argument of the government is that the order was not served on it as of the time it demolished the property. But after demolishing, why going petty?
“The election has come and gone and the governor should play the role of a father.”
Condemning what he described as growing impunity, lawlessness and disregard for rule of law in the state, the NBA boss warned that the governor’s behaviour, if not checked, could lead to anarchy.
