Notable Ekiti Cleric Extols Buhari, DSS Over Arrest Of Alleged Corrupt Judges
A notable Cleric in Ekiti State, Rev. Dr. Bayo Orire has commended President Muhammad, and the men of Department of State Services, (DSS) over the recent development which led to the arrest of some prominent judges for alleged corruption.
Orire, founder of God’s Tenet Church in Ado Ekiti in an interview with journalists in Ado Ekiti noted that only corrupt and self centered individuals would condemn the arrest of judges by the DSS.
Lamenting the level of decadence in judiciary sectors in the country, Orire who is also a prominent meical doctor and proprietor of Orire Hospital Complex in Ado Ekiti said only people with doubtful character needed to be afraid of arrest or prosecution.
According to him, “politics apart, it is sheer wickedness to blame president Buhari over such issue.
“All our systems are corrupt and it’s quite unfortunate that the judiciary which is supposed to be the last hope of everybody is now a tool to encourage corruption.”
On the protest by some lawyers over the time the arrst was made, Orire said “Anybody can be arrested at any time provided the necessary procedures are followed; as far as I am concerned, arrest is not a death warrant, it is prelude to investigation. The DSS is an independent body and should be allowed to function effectively without fear.”
Speaking agsinst the comments of some lawyers who threatened to protest against the action, the cleric asked, “where were they when Fayose was desecrating the judiciary and assulting the judge in Ekiti, or what role did the NJC played then?
“Are we not witnesses of how the National Judicial Council, whose mandate is to regulate, sanction erring judges and cleanse the temple of Justice treat errant judges with kid gloves, by just retiring them? The situation is so sad; in Singapore and in Asia generally, they would actually shoot you if you steal their money or fraudulently divert their money?”
