David Luiz has been branded a defensive ‘liability’ who has become a worse player since leaving Chelsea two years ago. The Brazilian completed a shock £34 million return to Stamford Bridge on deadline day, having left the club to join Paris Saint-Germain for £50m in June 2014.
Luiz helped PSG win consecutive Ligue 1 titles but French journalist Julien Laurens believes the 29-year-old rarely impressed during his time in Paris.
‘He’s been a liability for PSG more than anything else,’ Laurens told BBC 5 Live.
‘He hasn’t improved since leaving Chelsea. He’s probably coming back a worse player than when he left.
‘I’ve watched him pretty much every weekend since he joined PSG, I can hardly remember four games where he was actually good. He had some shockers, PSG couldn’t believe their luck.
‘First of all they tried to keep him because they had no other option but the money’s too good, we can’t turn that down, it’s impossible.’
