He pointed out that while the memories and lessons from the civil war are significant, constantly tying today’s challenges to a conflict that ended over five decades ago could hinder the region’s growth and influence.
The governor stressed that younger generations, who were born long after the war, shouldn’t be burdened by events they never experienced. Instead, they should be inspired to help shape Nigeria’s future through innovation, political involvement, and economic contributions.
Soludo called on the Ndigbo to adopt a more strategic role in national matters, emphasizing that unity, education, entrepreneurship, and political engagement are essential tools for development.
He highlighted the Igbo’s reputation for resilience, enterprise, and intelligence—qualities that should be leveraged to ensure stronger representation and relevance within the Nigerian system.
The governor’s comments have ignited a wave of reactions throughout social and political circles.
While some stakeholders believe it’s time to look ahead and seize opportunities within Nigeria, others contend that lingering issues from the civil war era—like marginalization and the need for reconciliation—must be tackled before the call to “move on” can truly resonate.
Political analysts point out that this statement underscores the ongoing struggle between remembering the past and making progress, a challenge that many post-conflict societies continue to face. Governor Soludo to Ndigbo
Soludo’s remarks contribute to a growing national conversation about unity, historical memory, and inclusion, especially as Nigeria deals with economic difficulties, insecurity, and demands for restructuring. Governor Soludo to Ndigbo
Observers think that the dialogue sparked by the Anambra governor’s comments could shape how younger generations of Igbos perceive their identity, politics, and their role in Nigeria’s future.
