Oyo police arrest 17-year-old over alleged defilement of a 3-year-old girl in Saki. Police say the child was found by the roadside in distress after she went missing on her way home from school.
The Oyo State Police Command announced the arrest on Thursday, September 24, in a statement issued in Ibadan by its spokesman, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade. The suspect is a 17-year-old male and he is now in police custody.

According to the police, the child went missing on September 17 after she was picked up from school earlier that afternoon. A distress report reached the Saki Divisional Police Station at about 6:00 p.m. that day. Officers mounted a search and found the girl along the roadside in a state of distress.

Ayanlade said preliminary inquiries showed that the suspect forcefully took the child into his apartment. Detectives visited and secured the scene. They arrested the suspect and recovered physical evidence that police link to the offence.
The girl was rushed to a medical facility in Saki. Police said she is receiving clinical treatment and psychotherapeutic care there.
The command said investigations began immediately. To make sure justice is served, it has transferred the case to the Gender Desk of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Iyaganku, Ibadan. The desk will handle the investigation and prosecution.
Police reiterated that they have zero tolerance for child abuse and sexual violence. The command promised that the identity, privacy and dignity of the child and her family will be protected throughout the process. It said this is in line with the Child Rights Act and established ethical guidelines for cases involving minors.
Ayanlade assured residents that the matter will be thoroughly investigated. He also urged members of the public to stay vigilant. Anyone who suspects an act of violence against a child or another vulnerable person should report it to the nearest police station.
