Lands In Nigeria Belong To Everyone; Give Fulani Herdsmen Your Lands And Stay Alive – Oluwo Blasts Afenifere, YCE

Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwoland, has faulted top Yoruba traditional leaders for their rejection of the federal government’s proposal to create cattle ranches in the southwest region. He said such stiff position will further deepen disunity in the country.

The Oluwo of Iwoland, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, has faulted the Afenifere group and the Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) on their rejection to the creation of cattle ranches for herdsmen in the southwest as proposed by the federal government. Akanbi said the position of the apex Yoruba socio-cultural organisation will generate rancour and disunity throughout country, Vanguard reports.

The Oba said this at the ‘N2 billon Community Development Fundraising’ set up by Temitope Olatoye Sugar, a member of the House of Representatives representing Akinyele/Lagelu federal constituency in Oyo state. During the event held in Ibadan recently, the Akanbi said lands in Nigeria belong to everyone and thus it was wrong to kick against the federal government’s proposal to create cattle ranches in the southwest.

He wondered why the same persons condemning the proposal did not kick against other businesses owned by northerners in the region. Akanbi said: “More than half of the landmass of this country belongs to the North. The remaining is shared by the Southerners. We should look for unity. We should not discriminate. The land together is called Nigerian land, and it belongs to all of us.

“There should be no discrimination. That is why I call myself the Alaafin of Iwo, Ooni of Iwo, Alake of Iwo. We traditional rulers should be fathers to all.” Dignitaries who were in attendance at the occasion included a representative speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, Wole Oke; Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo state represented by the state’s commissioner for education, Prof. Adeniyi Olowofela.

Others were Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo state, represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Ifedayo Abegunde; and Oladipupo Adebutu Keshington from Ogun state, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan, represented by Oba Adekunle Adebowale, the Agbolu of Agbaye Ife; Oba Lekan Balogun, the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Senator Ayoade Adeseun and parents of the lawmaker, who all contributed financially to the fundraising aimed at alleviating poverty especially among the jobless youths.

Olatoye Sugar in his speech stated: “The rich will never sleep as long as the poor are hungry. I therefore call on all men and women of goodwill, who have the determination like me to give succor to the less privileged, the voiceless and thousands of jobless youths who require vocational skills and entrepreneurship training in our society, to lend support through the launching of this N2 billon OSF Community Development fundraising.”

  1. This is typical senseless, selfish comment of a typical idiotic political Nigerian leader! Nigeria does NOT produce Beef or related products than any other developed nation in the world and yet you NEVER see cows parading streets or messing with farmers farm lands. Enough of this idiotic assumption that certain tribes have this insane assumption of superiority over the rest citizens,
