Nigerians are asking if Tinubu will get the Jonathan treatment in 2027,the kind treatment Nigerians including the current president gave Goodluck in 2015 presidential election
There’s a heated political debate taking center stage in Nigeria: Could President Bola Ahmed Tinubu end up facing the same fate as former President Goodluck Jonathan did in the 2015 general election?
Nigerians are asking if Tinubu
This conversation was sparked by Senator Ali Ndume, who recently pointed out that the current wave of defections and endorsements in favor of President Tinubu resembles the political backing Jonathan had before his surprising loss in 2015.
However, political analyst Jones FCC Onwuasoanya, PhD, argues that this comparison is fundamentally misguided. A deeper dive into Nigeria’s political scene reveals that the situations in 2015 and 2027 are worlds apart.
Nigerians are asking if Tinubu
Back in 2015, the downfall of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) began from within. Long before the election, Jonathan’s party was plagued by internal strife, factional battles, and strategic sabotage. Nigerians are asking if Tinubu
By 2013–2014:– The PDP lost its grip on the Governors’ Forum
– The leadership of the National Assembly slipped away
– Several sitting governors switched sides
– Even the Speaker of the House of Representatives joined the opposition
At that point, the PDP was merely a name without real power.
Any keen political observer could see Jonathan’s defeat looming at least two years ahead of the election.
Now, looking at Tinubu’s APC in 2027, we’re dealing with a completely different political equation.
Fast forward to today, and things couldn’t be more different.
President Tinubu has a solid grip on the All Progressives Congress (APC), from the national level all the way down to the grassroots. Instead of losing members, the APC is actually bringing in political heavyweights from the opposition.
Rather than falling apart, the APC is strengthening its hold on power.
Looking at Nigeria’s opposition parties, there’s a clear imbalance:
ADC: No sitting governor
PDP: About three governors, with only two likely to stick around until 2027
APGA: Controls one state and is openly backing Tinubu
Labour Party: Also controls one state but is facing a leadership crisis
Accord Party: Clearly supportive of Tinubu
NNPP (Kano): Rumored to be on the verge of joining the APC
On the flip side, key states like Lagos, Kaduna, Katsina, Niger, Imo, and others are firmly in APC hands. If Kano decides to join the APC, analysts believe Tinubu could achieve one of the most significant electoral victories in Nigeria’s history. Nigerians are asking if Tinubu
2015 vs 2027: Collapse vs Consolidation
In 2015: The PDP was losing governors left and right
Party leadership was in disarray
The opposition was united and strategic
In 2027: The APC is gaining momentum
Opposition parties are splintered and weakened by internal conflicts
There’s no single, credible opposition coalition in sight
The Verdict: Is Tinubu in Trouble?
According to Jones FCC Onwuasoanya, PhD, if we look back to 2015 as a reference point, President Tinubu isn’t in danger — he’s cruising toward victory. Nigerians are asking if Tinubu
Analysts suggest that the opposition has squandered crucial years battling among themselves instead of forming a united front. As it stands, Nigeria is essentially without a strong, organized alternative government waiting in the wings.
Elections can be pretty unpredictable, but right now, the odds seem to be stacked in favor of the incumbent. Unless we see a significant shift, a strong coalition forming, or some kind of major political upheaval, the landscape in 2027 looks quite different from what we experienced in 2015. So, is the 2027 election already a done deal, or could the opposition still catch Nigerians off guard?
Meanwhile; Sheikh Gumi Cries Out, raises alarm over a US plot to eliminate him because of his ties with terror!sm but it seems Gumi is now denying Boko haram boys and their atrocities. Nigerians are asking if Tinubu
Renowned Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has raised serious concerns after claiming he received alarming information suggesting that the United States has marked him for elimination, potentially through an airstrike disguised as an operation against Boko Haram.
