America suddenly wakes up to Boko Haram crisis in Nigeria, after 11 years the citizens have been crying out about the incessant k!lllings in the land, this is really a wake up call. But what really changed?

A U.S. lawmaker, Rep. Riley M. Moore, has voiced strong criticism of the recent Boko Haram takeover in Kirawa, a community located in Borno State, Nigeria. He’s calling on the U.S. government to take firm action against what he refers to as “Islamic persecution and terror.”

In a post he shared earlier this week on X, Rep. Moore expressed:

“I urge President Trump to use every tool at his disposal to defend Christians from this scourge of Islamic persecution and terror.”

“Why is America suddenly concerned about the killings we’ve been pleading for help to stop since 2014?” he asked. “Back then, the APC used Boko Haram to destabilize the Goodluck Jonathan administration, and the West even blocked Jonathan’s arms deals to fight them. So why are they just waking up now — in 2025?”America Suddenly Wakes Up to Boko Haram

The Boko Haram insurgency, which kicked off in 2009, has tragically claimed over 100,000 lives and forced millions to flee their homes across Nigeria, Niger, Chad, and Cameroon. During the time of former President Goodluck Jonathan, the Nigerian government tried to secure weapons from other countries to tackle the insurgency, but they faced pushback from Western allies who raised concerns about human rights.  America Suddenly Wakes Up to Boko Haram

Many Nigerians feel that this decision hampered the military’s ability to respond effectively, giving Boko Haram the chance to strengthen its position.

Fast forward over a decade, and Boko Haram’s resurgence — highlighted by the recent invasion of Kirawa — has once again caught the attention of Washington. Analysts suggest that this renewed interest might be linked to shifting geopolitical dynamics, especially with the U.S. competing with China and Russia for influence in Africa.    America Suddenly Wakes Up to Boko Haram

On social media, Nigerians have shared a mix of reactions to Rep. Moore’s comments. While some appreciated the U.S. recognizing Nigeria’s escalating insecurity, others, like Okwy Chris, felt it was “too little, too late.”    America Suddenly Wakes Up to Boko Haram

One user pointed out:

“America isn’t suddenly caring about Nigeria; they’re just looking out for their interests in Africa now that Russia and China are making moves.”

For many Nigerians, the lingering question is: Is this a sincere humanitarian concern from the United States, or just another strategic maneuver in the complex game of global politics?

Regardless of the answer, one thing is clear — Nigeria’s battle against terrorism is far from over, and it seems the world powers are finally taking notice again.

What do you think? Is America genuinely worried about Nigeria’s safety, or is this part of a larger global strategy? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
