Anthony Obodo: Rivers Police Dismiss 3 Officers Over UNIPORT De@th

Anthony Obodo mvrder probe escalates as Rivers Police Command dismisses three officers over the fatal sh00ting of the 22-year-old UNIPORT graduate.

The Rivers State Police Command has dismissed three officers following an orderly room trial into the fatal shtings of 22-year-old University of Port Harcourt graduate Anthony Obodo at Ada George Road. State Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju paraded the suspects at headquarters in Port Harcourt, confirming they will face criminal prosecution while declaring a fleeing inspector a deserter.

A young man is dead. Twenty-two years old, a UNIPORT graduate, done with school and simply waiting for his NYSC call-up letter to arrive — the next chapter of his life lined up and ready.

Anthony Obodo never got there. What he got instead was an encounter with a police patrol team along Ada George Road in Port Harcourt, and he did not survive it. The Rivers State Police Command has since moved to take disciplinary action, pushed there by the weight of what happened and the noise it has rightfully caused.

The sequence of events on August 27 started with policemen attempting to stop the car Anthony was driving. When he didn’t pull over instantly, the team gave chase. In the middle of the pursuit, Corporal Alfred Louis opened fire, hitting the young man before he was rushed to Palmer’s Hospital, where doctors confirmed he had d!ed.

Massive anger and protests by Emohua community members alongside UNIPORT students left the authorities with no choice but to act fast. Rivers State Police Commissioner Olugbenga Adepoju personally paraded three members of the patrol team before journalists, announcing that their internal trial found them guilty of gross misconduct, leading to their immediate sack from the force.

Police authorities confirmed that the sacked men will face direct court trial for m*rder, making it clear that no trigger-happy officer will be shielded.  Anthony Obodo

Inspector Solomon Nworgu, who was at the scene when it all went wrong, did not stay to face what came next. He ran. Security agencies are now actively looking for him, and the force has gone ahead to declare him a deserter — a label that tells its own story about how seriously his disappearance is being taken.  Anthony Obodo

Back home, Anthony’s father is not staying quiet either. Princewill Obodo has pushed back hard against the early attempts to paint his son as someone who deserved what happened to him. He is not having it. His position is plain — his boy was innocent, full stop.

Family members also revealed that the officers had actually abandoned their official guard duty at an ongoing event before running into Anthony on the road.  Anthony Obodo

The entire community remains heavy with grief, with many insisting that only proper court trial and punishment will bring true justice for Anthony Obodo.

Do you think dragging these sacked officers to court will finally curb police excesses on Port Harcourt roads, or is a complete system overhaul needed?
