First son stops mother burial in Imo state as he demand full settlement from his married sisters, everyone was thrown into shock
Drama has erupted in the Nwawere family from Imo State after the eldest son, Uzoma Nwawere, reportedly refused to allow his late mother to be buried in the family compound unless his married sisters and their husbands “settle” him first.
First son stops mother
A retired police officer who was present at the compound shared that Uzoma, the only son of the late Godwin and Mrs. Nwawere, feels he has been overlooked and disrespected by his sisters, all of whom are married to men from Mbano, as well as by their late mother.
First Son Stops Mother
He claims that while his sisters took care of their mother, they neglected him, leaving him to manage at home “on credit.” Now, following his mother’s death, Uzoma is adamant that no burial will take place on the family land (which he inherited as the first son) unless he receives compensation from his sisters and their husbands.
This startling demand has split the community—some argue that Uzoma is standing up for his rights as the Okpara (first son), while others think he’s exploiting tradition to extort his own family during a time of mourning.

What’s your take? Is Uzoma justified in demanding a settlement before allowing his mother’s burial, or has he crossed the line with his “Okpara rights”?
