The Holland Scholarship is a Dutch scholarship jointly funded by the country’s Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, and a bunch of its institutions of higher education, which includes both research universities and universities of applied sciences.

As many as 2,112 new students annually receive this scholarship, which has two versions. One of them is meant for Dutch students, while the other is for students coming from outside the European Economic Area (EEA).

The latter version is worth €5,000, which is awarded in the first year of study. It must be noted that this Master’s scholarship in the Netherlands is not renewable for a second year.

To be considered eligible for the Holland Scholarship, a student must be applying for admission to a full-time bachelor’s or master’s program at any of the participating Dutch universities.

Meeting the specific requirements of the institution of the particular student’s choice is mandatory, and so is not possessing a degree awarded by a Dutch educational institution.

2. Amandus H. Lundqvist Scholarship Program

Scholarship Value: Tuition waiver worth €16,000 and living expense funding worth €5,000 in each year of study

The Amandus H. Lundqvist Scholarship Program (ALSP) is run by the Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) to financially support its brightest international students at master’s level.

Named after a former president of the university, this Master’s scholarship in the Netherlands provides recipients with a tuition waiver of €16,000, in addition to contributing €5,000 per year for living expenses for the two-year duration of the master’s program.

The living expense funding for the first year of study actually comes from the Holland Scholarship.

Anyone who isn’t a Dutch citizen, and has earned a bachelor’s degree from a non-Dutch, globally-acclaimed university with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 80 percent or higher is eligible for the ALSP.

However, those who are eligible for support under Studiefinanciering, the Dutch system of study grants and loans, are disqualified. Also, those who have been receiving a full-cost scholarship from another scholarship organization are not eligible.

An interesting fact about this scholarship is that it doesn’t require a separate application. Those who are applying for a TU/e master’s program are automatically considered for it, unless they have made it clear in their online application that they do not wish to be considered.

The rest of the funding comes from the Maastricht University Scholarship Fund.

To be considered eligible for the Maastricht University Holland-High Potential Scholarship, a student must have applied for any of the 57 participating full-time master’s programs at UM.

Needless to say, meeting the specific admission requirements of the program of choice is also necessary.

In addition to not holding an EU/EEA nationality, a candidate must also not have participated in a degree-seeking program in the Netherlands before. Those who are older than 35 years of age are ruled out.
