Ex Buhari’s aid raises alarm over alleged mass reporting of Tinubu supporters’ and APC supporters’ X accounts, saying reports alone should not trigger suspension.
Ex Buhari’s aid, Bashir Ahmad has raised concerns a coordinated efforts by some people to mass-report the X accounts of the supporters of President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ahmad made the claim in a post on X (formerly Twitter), alleging that some people had formed groups specifically to report accounts belonging to Tinubu supporters and APC online supporters in an attempt to get them suspended.
He said the alleged development reminded him of his own experience with coordinated mass reporting on the social media platform over the years.
According to the Ex Buhari’s aid, he had faced repeated reports from different groups, including a government agency in a Middle Eastern country.
He recalled that around 2018, his X account came under a massive wave of reports, an experience he said led to a follow from Jack Dorsey, the then chief executive officer of Twitter.
The Ex Buhari’s aid said the experience gave him unprecedented access to Dorsey.
He added that his past encounters with mass reporting had taught him that the number of reports against an account should not, by itself, lead to suspension if the account owner has not violated the platform’s rules and policies.
“I have noticed that some people have formed groups with the sole purpose of reporting the X accounts of those who support President Bola Tinubu and the APC, apparently with the intention of getting our accounts suspended.
“This reminds me of my own experience with coordinated mass reporting over the years. I faced repeated reports against my account from different categories of people, including a government agency in a Middle Eastern country
“Around 2018, my account came under a massive wave of reports, an episode that even earned me a follow from the then Twitter CEO, Mr. Jack Dorsey, which gave me unprecedented access to him.
“These experiences have taught me that no matter how many people report your account, mass reporting alone should not lead to suspension if you have not violated X’s rules and policies,” he said.
However, what NewsFlash notice is that Ahmad did not name the groups he accused of organising the alleged reporting campaign or provide details identifying the accounts that are targeting APC supporters
The claim also does not establish that any Tinubu supporter’s account has been suspended as a result of the alleged activity, as NewsFlash hasn’t found any yet.
What NewsFlash know is that X, formerly known as Twitter, has rules and policies governing the account of its users and the cintebt accounts and content. Ahmad’s post reflects his position that mass reporting should not be enough to justify suspending an account that has not breached those rules. Continue reading here.
