An X user has circulated personal information about INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan and his family amid growing concerns about the 2027 elections.
The development comes as INEC faces questions over suspected AI-generated photographs and irregularities discovered in its preliminary voters’ register.
Nigerians have taken to social media to warn the electoral commission against alleged election manipulation, with some comments raising concerns about intimidation.
Nigerians have reacted after an X user circulated personal information about the family of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, amid growing tension over the credibility of the 2027 general elections.
The development followed public concerns about irregularities in the preliminary voters’ register, with some social media users warning Amupitan against any attempt to manipulate the electoral process.
X user shares information about Amupitan’s family
An X user identified as @redcap_blondie, posting under the name Preach Love, shared information concerning Amupitan’s background and family, including details about his wife and children.
The post attracted attention as Nigerians continued to question whether INEC could guarantee a transparent and credible election in 2027.
In another post, the user accused President Bola Tinubu of planning to repeat what they described as electoral manipulation during the previous presidential election.
The user wrote:
“Tinubu is about to repeat what he did with INEC in the last election. He wants to do it all over again.”
The account also warned the INEC chairman that Nigerians would hold him accountable for the conduct of the next general election.
INEC faces questions over voters’ register
The controversy comes as INEC battles public criticism following the discovery of suspicious photographs and other irregularities in its preliminary voters’ register.
The commission’s Director of Information and Communication Technology, Lawrence Bayode, disclosed that its Automated Biometric Identification System had flagged 268 records for further examination.
He also acknowledged that some registration officers allegedly used their official access to introduce questionable entries into the database.
INEC Chairman Amupitan has said the commission is examining the affected records and will take corrective action based on verified findings.
The electoral body is expected to complete its verification and data-cleaning exercise before certifying the final voters’ register on December 15, 2026.
The development has increased concerns about the commission’s preparedness for the 2027 elections, particularly as Nigeria has more than 103 million registered voters.
