Saida Boj questions Nigerians celebrating Halloween

Nigerian social media personality Saida Boj has sparked an online debate after questioning Nigerians who participated in Halloween celebrations, asking whether the occasion was part of the country’s cultural heritage.

In a video shared by YabaLeftOnline, the outspoken personality expressed displeasure with Nigerians who embrace foreign celebrations while, according to her, paying little attention to their traditional festivals.

Saida Boj wondered whether those celebrating Halloween understood its history or knew where the festival originated.

“Halloween na Nigerian festival. No, Halloween, is it a Nigerian tradition? Over Sabina won’t finish Nigerians.”

Saida Boj speaks about Nigerian cultural festivals

During her speech, Saida Boj argued that Nigerians should show more interest in their cultural celebrations instead of rushing to participate in foreign traditions.

She also questioned why some Nigerians were more familiar with Halloween than festivals celebrated in their own communities.

The social media personality mentioned the Calabar Carnival while making her point and challenged those celebrating Halloween to explain its origin and significance.

She further suggested that some Nigerians had become disconnected from their roots, particularly those who rarely returned to their villages to participate in traditional activities.

Speaking about how foreigners might perceive Nigerians, she said:

“That is why they will never respect us. That is why they will look us less. They not rate us but we rate them. We rate them. We rate them.”

Her comments centred on what she described as Nigerians giving foreign cultures more attention than their own.
