Dele Momodu Speaks On Igbo Marginalization in Nigeria 2025, Call For Nnamdi Kanu Release

Dele Momodu speaks on Igbo marginalization in Nigeria and called for urgent release of Nnamdi Kanu from prison, you can check below for his full comment.

Renowned media mogul and publisher of Ovation International Magazine, Chief Dele Momodu, has opened up about his thoughts on the detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and the ongoing marginalization of the Igbo people within Nigeria’s political landscape.

In a compelling commentary that has ignited discussions across social media, Momodu reflected on a past broadcast by Nnamdi Kanu just before his abduction from Kenya, calling it “thought-provoking and deeply philosophical.” He believes that the renewed push for Biafra isn’t just a rebellion; it stems from years of systemic neglect, exclusion, and deprivation faced by the South East region.

Momodu pointed out that many of Kanu’s critics have rushed to judgment without truly understanding the socio-political context that fueled the movement. He remarked:

“I’ve taken the time to listen to his critics and found that most of them jumped to conclusions without really analyzing why the agitation for Biafra has reignited, becoming appealing and fanciful after the tragic events that claimed millions of lives and destroyed countless properties in the 1960s and ’70s. The ongoing marginalization of the Igbo people, along with the deprivation of some of Africa’s most talented and vibrant minds, has reignited the Biafra sentiment.”

The seasoned journalist further argued that efforts by Kanu’s adversaries—some even from his own ethnic group—to silence or eliminate him won’t address the root issues. Instead, he stressed the urgent need for political restructuring and the inclusion of the Igbo people in national development.  Dele Momodu speaks on Igbo marginalization

“The Igbo struggle goes beyond legal jargon. It demands serious political reconfiguration, and it’s urgent. I will never endorse violence. However, any sensible government should engage the brilliant minds of the South East in productive ways, rather than fostering this rampant hatred.”  Dele Momodu speaks on Igbo marginalization

Dele Momodu’s statement has resonated with many Nigerians who feel that his call for inclusion and equity truly reflects the ideals of unity and progress. For others, it serves as a powerful and timely reminder to the Nigerian government that peace and stability can only flourish when justice is served.  Dele Momodu speaks on Igbo marginalization

Ex-Niger-Delta militant leader, Asari Dokubo, has expressed his disagreement with Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), over his call for the boycott of the 2019 general elections by the Southeast and South-south region.

Dokubo made his views known in a six minutes video which surfaced on the social media on Monday.

Kanu had over the weekend urged IPOB supporters and sympathizers in the two geopolitical zones to shun the 2019 general election unless the Federal Government announced a date for Biafra referendum.  Dele Momodu speaks on Igbo marginalization

Reacting to the call, Dokubo argued that heeding Kanu’s advice was suicidal since it would be tantamount to empowering those opposed to the Biafra aspirations with resources from the national treasury to frustrate the people’s struggle. Continue reading here
