A former INEC staff warns Peter obi to train and equip the New Democratic Congress agents (NDC) ahead of the 2027 general election.
A former Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) staff ad hoc staff member has urged Peter Obi and the New Democratic Congress (NDC) to prioritise the training and proper equipping of polling unit agents ahead of the 2027 general election, citing alleged lapses observed during the 2023 elections.
The former INEC staff member, in a message directed at Obi and the party’s leadership, recounted how the Labour Party’s polling unit agent was allegedly ill-equipped and failed to accompany electoral officials to the council-level collation centre during the 2023 general election.
According to the former INEC staff, the experience highlighted the need for political parties to prepare their agents to monitor every stage of the electoral process and safeguard their votes.
“I want to point out some issues that occurred during the 2023 general election,” the former INEC ad hoc staff member said.

“Now the then Labour Party agent was not well equipped. When I say well equipped, the guy—at the time they were even mocking him, not even get money to chop, you know that kind of a thing—and was not looking like he had confidence in what he was doing, even though the NDC then won in our polling units. But the agent was not well equipped.”
The speaker further alleged that the agent’s absence at the council-level collation centre created another concern, claiming that representatives of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were present when the electoral officials arrived.
“Secondly, the agent did not follow us to the council. We left from the polling unit to the council, and when we got to the council, all the agents were APC, PDP agents, and that was where the main deed took place,” the speaker added.
Former INEC Staff Urges NDC to Train, Equip Polling Unit Agents
The former electoral staff member called on Obi and the NDC leadership to ensure that their agents receive adequate training and understand their responsibilities before the next general election.
The speaker argued that election agents should be prepared in the same way INEC ad hoc staff undergo training before participating in electoral activities.
“So this time around, His Excellency, the team, please, the agents should go round, they should be well equipped, they should—like it should be a lecture for them, they should understand everything that goes on in election, just like the ad hoc staffs go for training,” the speaker said.
“They should also go for training this time around, so that they will be able to protect our vote.”
The speaker concluded by expressing a desire for improved electoral accountability and national development, saying: “I want to vote, I want a better Nigeria. Thank you all.”
The comments have drawn reactions on social media, with several users agreeing that the preparation of polling unit agents could be crucial to protecting votes during the 2027 general election.
Nigerians React as Former INEC Staff Raises Concerns
Reacting to the video, X user @Rulz, identified as @JAHrhulz, stressed that political parties must prepare their agents to monitor the electoral process beyond the polling unit.
“Matter of fact you cannot protect votes you are not prepared to defend at every stage of the process, so pls train the agents, equip them properly and ensure they understand their responsibilities from polling units to collation centres,” the user wrote.
Another user, @Olafemi, identified as @fem_desmond, claimed to have witnessed a similar situation during the 2023 election.
“Yes it happened in my polling unit too. We only had apc agent during the election,” the user stated.

Similarly, @Mickey, identified as @Jaggarr, recalled an incident involving a female Labour Party agent who was allegedly reluctant to travel to the local government area to collect her copy of the election result.
“My polling unit in 2023, a lady was the agent she was scared to go & collect her copy at local government..I told her Madam enter car so we went together with other LP supporters,” the user wrote.
Calling for greater participation ahead of the next election, the user added: “In 2027,every Obi supporter should become a polling unit agent. This suffering affects us all.”
Meanwhile, @Ayomi, identified as @AyomiMuch, questioned the circumstances surrounding the agent’s absence, suggesting that incentives might have influenced the situation.
“Agent went to eat . Who knows if APC had offered agent something,” the user wrote.
Another user, @Mazi Nonso MFR, identified as @C_Asikan, also described what they claimed was a similar experience involving a Labour Party agent during the 2023 election.
“Same thing with my polling unit. The LP polling unit agent was haphazardly dressed. He was looking confused. At some point everyone was looking for me to stand in for him while he went to eat. We were even the ones giving him morale to be confident,” the user stated.
The user subsequently called for better preparation of the NDC’s agents, writing: “The NDC agents needs training.”
Adding to the discussion, @Joseph Adebayo, identified as @ahurilluminati, argued that building an effective polling unit structure should be a priority for Obi and the party.
“These’re the realest issue. Yes NDC doesn’t have a physical and financial structure because it wasn’t built on criminality. It’s organic but we need that PU structure. Please @PeterObi . I beg you,” the user wrote.
