Nigerians react to Laide Olabanji’s comment on Peter Obi
The actor’s praise for Peter Obi has attracted mixed reactions from social media users, with some questioning the former governor’s ability to lead Nigeria and others defending the candidate they like.
A user identified as @justdaare questioned the repeated claims politicians make about their competence.
“That’s all they all say ‘I’m competent’ till they get there,” the user wrote.
Another commenter, @AYOnice, expressed doubt about whether Obi could effectively govern the country.
“Even if obi is the president Nothing will change the situation might be worse because they will never allow him to work or rather can he actually work this country,” the user said.
David, who posts as @ManLikeDavid__, also questioned Obi’s electoral prospects, writing: “Na love we go chop, can he win?…..that’s the question”.
However, another user, @pilot7_official, defended the former presidential candidate, saying personal and political differences should not determine how people view him.
“Religion, tribal and hates aside… If you hate Peter obi to me you’re automatically a bad person and a fraud,” the user wrote.
Other Nigerians question Peter Obi’s record and leadership Style
Not all the reactions supported Olabanji’s position. Ahmed Agboota, who uses the handle @santioflagos, accused the actor of using Obi’s popularity to attract attention online and challenged claims about the politician’s record.
The commenter also raised questions about events during Obi’s tenure as governor of Anambra State, including school fees and a reported doctors’ strike.
Another user, Elan James, argued that performance and accountability should matter more than popularity. “Everybody get the politician wey dem believe in, but at the end of the day, na performance and accountability suppose matter pass hype. Make any leader wey Nigerians choose deliver real results for the people,” James wrote.
