Pastor Ibiyeomie Says Helping Christians Who Don’t Pay Tithe Can Make You Poor

Pastor Ibiyeomie has sparked controversy after claiming that helping Christians who do not pay tithes can lead to financial hardship.

The cleric recalled giving N40,000 to a struggling pastor with a newborn baby and later experiencing what he described as closed heavens.

His remarks, shared in a broadcast clip, have attracted criticism from social media users who questioned his emphasis on tithing and the message’s impact on Christianity.

Nigerian pastor David Ibiyeomie has triggered heated reactions online after warning Christians against giving financial assistance to believers who do not pay tithes. The founder of Salvation Ministries made the statement while sharing a personal experience involving a pastor who reportedly needed help after being sent out of his home.

His comments have reopened conversations about tithing, financial blessings and the responsibility of Christians to help people in need.

Pastor Ibiyeomie recounts experience with struggling pastor

In the broadcast, pastor Ibiyeomie explained that he once encountered a fellow pastor who approached him for financial assistance while carrying a baby who was less than two weeks old.

According to him, the man said another pastor had sent him out of his house, leaving him with nowhere to turn for help.

Ibiyeomie said he was not financially comfortable at the time but decided to give the man N40,000 after hearing his situation.

He recalled that his bank account had about N200,000, making the amount a significant part of his available money.

However, the cleric claimed that his financial situation became difficult shortly after he assisted the man.

‘My heavens were closed’, pastor Ibiyeomie claims

Pastor Ibiyeomie said he later discovered that the man he helped was not a regular tither. He claimed that this was responsible for the financial difficulties he experienced after giving the money.

He further explained that he sought God’s mercy and eventually used his personal funds to pay tithes on behalf of the pastor.

He claimed that his situation improved afterwards.

In his words:

“The moment I gave the 40,000, my heavens were closed. No breakthrough. Every door shut down.”

He also warned that helping a Christian who does not pay tithes could bring financial difficulties to the person offering assistance.

The pastor added that he had personally experienced such a situation and that his wife was aware of the incident.

Social media users criticise Ibiyeomie’s statement

The pastor’s comments have generated criticism, with several social media users questioning the message and its emphasis on tithing.

Some accused him of placing too much importance on tithes, while others questioned whether helping people in difficult situations should be linked to their payment of tithes.
