Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo has defended his John 3:16 tattoo, says because of his tattoo gospel has reached millions of people around the world in 24 hours.

The tattoo, which prominently features one of the most quoted verses in Christianity, sparked intense discussions on social media. Many Nigerians are questioning whether this kind of expression fits with pastoral duties and Christian values.

In response to the criticism, Pastor Okonkwo argued that evangelism needs to adapt to the times and cultural shifts. He believes that the buzz created by his tattoo has opened up opportunities for discussions about faith with people who might typically shy away from church.

“The gospel is about reaching people, not just staying in our comfort zones,” he reportedly stated, highlighting that unconventional approaches can still lead to significant spiritual connections.  Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo

Supporters of Pastor Okonkwo feel that the emphasis should be on the message of salvation rather than the method of delivery. They point out that Jesus himself often preached outside traditional religious settings and challenged societal norms.

On the flip side, critics argue that pastors should uphold higher standards and refrain from actions that might blur the lines between personal expression and spiritual leadership. Some have even cited biblical teachings that discourage body markings, labeling the tattoo as unnecessary and distracting.  Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo

This debate has expanded beyond just Pastor Okonkwo, delving into larger topics such as:

– Modern evangelism in the digital era
– The balance between faith and personal expression
– The impact of appearance on spiritual authority

As churches continue to evolve with the times, the pressing question remains: Should the gospel adapt to culture, or should culture adapt to the gospel?

One thing is clear — this conversation is just getting started.

Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has been granted bail after spending two nights at the Suleja Correctional Centre, but she’s still in custody due to some legal hiccups that are delaying her release.  Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo

In court, it was decided that Okorie would be granted bail set at ₦5 million, but there’s a catch: her surety needs to be a Level 13 civil servant. Plus, the surety has to provide solid proof of both residence and employment — which is why the actress is still behind bars.

The police have accused Angela Okorie of conspiring to defame her fellow Nollywood star, Mercy Johnson-Okojie, through a series of viral social media posts. In these posts, Okorie allegedly called Johnson a “blood-sucking demon” and claimed she was “chopping people’s destinies.” Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo

Law enforcement officials claim that the posts constitute criminal defamation and cyber harassment, which are offenses punishable under the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act of 2015. Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo

Angela Okorie’s legal team has firmly rejected these allegations, asserting that the actress is innocent and had previously agreed to a ceasefire to prevent further public exchanges between the two parties. Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo

Her lawyers argue that the situation is being exaggerated and caution that criminalizing online disputes among entertainers could create a troubling precedent for freedom of expression in the industry.  Continue reading here
