Shettima Accuses Peter Obi of Using Lies, Bogus Statistics to Fight for 2027

Vice-President Kashim Shettima has launched another attack on Peter Obi, claiming the opposition politician has damaged his chances of winning the 2027 presidential election.

Shettima accused the former Anambra governor of relying on lies and questionable statistics, saying he had also lost the goodwill of Nigerians.

The Vice-President made the remarks at President Bola Tinubu’s campaign rally in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Friday, November 6, 2026.

Vice-President Kashim Shettima has taken another swipe at Peter Obi, declaring that the former Anambra State governor has damaged his chances of winning the 2027 presidential election through what he described as lies and bogus statistics.

Shettima made the statement on Friday, November 6, during President Bola Tinubu’s presidential campaign rally in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, where he also questioned Obi’s popularity among Nigerians.

Shettima makes fresh allegation against Obi

According to Shettima, Obi had lost the goodwill he previously enjoyed among Nigerians because of his political statements and the figures he frequently uses to criticise the government.

The Vice-President also made a remark about Obi’s recent absence from the country, claiming that the opposition politician had travelled abroad to rest before returning to Nigeria.

Shettima suggested that Obi had deliberately avoided Lagos and Abuja after his return.

He said:

“I hereby say that Peter Obi is back in the country after sneaking out to have a rest; he might have avoided Lagos and Abuja on arrival, but clearly this gentleman has run himself out of the race with his lies and bogus statistics.”

The Vice-President further claimed that Obi’s political appeal had weakened, adding that the former governor no longer generated the excitement he once enjoyed.

“We warned him that it would get to this; Peter Obi has clearly given away his goodwill and no longer excites when he only raises suspicions; too bad for him.”

Shettima, Obi’s political disagreements deepen ahead of 2027

The latest exchange adds to the growing political disagreements between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and Obi, who is seeking to become Nigeria’s president under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Shettima had previously criticised Obi’s economic arguments and his comparisons between Nigeria and other countries, particularly Bangladesh.

At the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja on October 14, the Vice-President described Obi as the “master of bogus statistics and incoherent economic prescriptions”.

He also questioned Obi’s claim that he won the 2023 presidential election, arguing that the former governor had not provided evidence to support it.

Obi, who contested the 2023 election under the Labour Party, finished third behind Tinubu and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.

He challenged the election result in court, but the Supreme Court upheld Tinubu’s victory in October 2023.

The actress said electricity sometimes lasts for only five minutes, forcing households to depend on generators and solar energy.

Her remarks have sparked reactions on social media, with Nigerians sharing their struggles with heat, rising fuel costs and poor power supply.

Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw has expressed frustration over Nigeria’s persistent electricity crisis, wondering why the country is still struggling with unreliable power supply in 2026.

The actress lamented that electricity sometimes lasts for just five minutes, leaving households with little choice but to find alternative sources of energy to meet their daily needs.

In a statement shared on social media, Henshaw described how homes are increasingly being forced to operate like factories because residents must generate their own electricity.

She mentioned generators and solar energy as some of the alternatives Nigerians now depend on to carry out basic activities.

The actress also questioned how the country has continued to battle inadequate electricity supply despite the many years that have passed. Continue reading here.
