A Nigerian pastor has urged Christians to have more than two children, warning that Muslims are increasing their population through childbirth.
The cleric described children as “weapons” and claimed that Muslims are outnumbering Christians through their birth rates.
His remarks, including a claim about Mohammed being the most popular name for newborn boys in the UK, have triggered mixed reactions among Nigerians on social media.
A pastor has stirred controversy on social media after urging Christians to have more than two children, claiming that Muslims are using childbirth to increase their population and outnumber Christians.
The cleric’s remarks have attracted different reactions from Nigerians, with some questioning his position while others argued that Christians should not limit the number of children they have.
Pastor raises concerns over Muslim population growth
In a statement that has generated conversations online, the pastor warned Christians against restricting themselves to having just two children.
He argued that having more children could help Christians maintain their population, while expressing concern about what he described as a growing Muslim population.
The pastor also suggested that childbirth was part of a wider agenda to increase the number of Muslims across the world.
He said:
“Christians should stop giving birth to two children. Children are weapons and there’s an agenda to outnumber Christians just by childbirth. The Muslims are populating the world.”
The cleric further claimed that the name Mohammed had recorded the highest number of registrations for newborn children in the United Kingdom for three consecutive years.
He cited this as another indication of the growing Muslim population, although he did not provide supporting figures for the claim in the statement.
Nigerians question pastor’s advice
The pastor’s comments have divided social media users, with some agreeing that Christians should not deliberately limit their family sizes, while others questioned the financial responsibilities that come with raising children.
A social media user, Rare, argued that Christians who could afford to raise large families were free to do so but warned against following the pastor’s advice without thinking carefully.
JERSEY & BOOT plug, however, questioned whether the pastor would help parents provide basic needs for the children they encouraged them to have.
Others suggested that raising children properly should matter more than having a large family.
