Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has broken his silence on the possibility of quitting the 2027 presidential race following a recent court ruling, telling his supporters not to lose hope.

Atiku speaks on quitting 2027 presidential race

In a statement released in Sokoto on Friday, November 6, Atiku maintained that the latest court ruling should not be mistaken for the decision of Nigerians.

The former vice president insisted that neither political pressure nor legal battles would force him to abandon his supporters or his presidential ambition.

He also accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of using different political tactics to weaken opposition parties and create conditions that could threaten Nigeria’s multi-party democracy.

Atiku questioned why a government that boasts of having 32 governors and attracting politicians from other parties would be afraid of facing its opponents in a credible election.

He said

“I am in this race. I am not going anywhere. We will be on the ballot. No threat, blackmail or court manoeuvre will make me abandon you or the cause we share.

Atiku further alleged that attempts were being made to compromise the voters’ register through AI-generated photographs, false names and fictitious identities.

He warned that such developments could make genuine political competition difficult and push Nigeria towards a one-party state.

Atiku tackles Tinubu over economic hardship

Beyond the legal and political developments, Atiku used his statement to criticise President Bola Tinubu’s administration over the country’s economic challenges.

He blamed the government for removing the petrol subsidy without adequate measures to protect Nigerians from the impact.

The former presidential candidate also listed the falling value of the naira, rising food and fuel prices, business closures and insecurity among the problems affecting the country.

He said ordinary families were struggling to afford basic necessities, while many young Nigerians were leaving the country in search of better opportunities.

Atiku urged Nigerians not to surrender their democratic rights or lose confidence in the possibility of political change.

What Atiku told Nigerians ahead of 2027

The former vice president encouraged his supporters to remain calm, united and determined, assuring them that his campaign would continue.

He also challenged the ruling party to face opposition candidates at the polls if it was confident in its achievements and political strength.

Atiku maintained that his campaign would continue to highlight the rising cost of living and the need to make life affordable for Nigerians.

He ended his statement with a direct message to President Tinubu:

“Bola cannot use the courts to escape the judgment of Nigerians at the ballot box.”

Meanwhile, A Federal High Court in Abuja has removed Senator David Mark-led executives of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and invalidated their actions.

The ruling also affects Atiku Abubakar’s emergence as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 elections.

Newsflashngr reported that the judgment followed a legal challenge by Nafiu Bala Gombe, while the ADC has vowed to appeal the decision.
