Delta NLC has declared an indefinite strike over the death of Mr Unity Adedah, a deputy director in the state Ministry of Secondary Education. The union shut down the state secretariat in Asaba as angry workers demanded answers on Friday morning.
Adedah reportedly passed away on Friday morning after he was tied up and beaten mercilessly by thugs, allegedly on the orders of the Commissioner for Secondary Education in Delta State, Dr Kingsley Ashibogwu. Workers immediately locked the complex and vowed not to return to duty until government addresses their safety concerns.

Delta State NLC Chairman, Comrade Goodluck Oforbruku, addressed the protesting workers directly at the Prof. Chike Edozien Secretariat and announced the indefinite strike on the spot.
Trouble reportedly started after a disagreement between Adedah and the Director of Examinations at the ministry earlier in the week. Workers allege the director called in Ashibogwu, who then ordered his driver and police orderly to beat Adedah instead of settling the dispute. Adedah was said to have been detained afterward before he was rushed to a hospital, where he did not survive.

Protesters are not just shutting down offices. They want Ashibogwu arrested alongside his driver, Amos Atah, his police orderly, Celestine Opute, and a fourth person identified only as David. They are calling on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the police to intervene.
Ashibogwu denies giving any such order. He says he only rushed to the ministry after a distress call about a man attacking staff, and that Adedah attacked him first. “I never ordered anybody to attack or beat him. I am not a violent person. I can’t lie against a dead body,” he said.
Secretary to the State Government, Kingsley Emu, visited the secretariat to appeal for calm, and the state government has promised an investigation. For now, nobody outside the two camps has independently confirmed what happened in that room, and the police are yet to comment.
