Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has urged Nigerians to collect money offered by politicians but vote for candidates of their choice in 2027.
The APM presidential candidate insisted that voters should not feel guilty about accepting campaign money, saying it belongs to them.

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has stirred conversations ahead of the 2027 general elections after advising Nigerians to collect money offered by politicians but vote according to their conscience.
The presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) gave the advice on Saturday, November 7, 2026, during the flag-off of his presidential campaign in Bauchi State.
Makinde told supporters not to feel guilty about accepting money from politicians, insisting that receiving such financial offers should not determine their choice at the ballot box
What Seyi Makinde said about collecting politicians’ money
Speaking at the campaign rally, the Oyo governor encouraged Nigerians to accept money offered during political campaigns without allowing it to influence their voting decisions.
He maintained that voters had the right to decide who deserved their support, regardless of the financial offers they received from politicians.
Makinde said:
“Don’t bother at all. When they bring money, it is your money, collect it, spend it, but vote your heart and I know your heart is with us and APM.”
His statement comes as political parties and their candidates intensify preparations for the 2027 elections
Makinde speaks on his plans to reset Nigeria
Beyond his comments about campaign money, Makinde also appealed to Nigerians dissatisfied with the country’s condition to support his proposed Reset Nigeria agenda.
He identified economic hardship, insecurity and a lack of inclusiveness in governance as issues requiring urgent attention.
The governor argued that Nigeria needed changes to its economy, security architecture and socio-political environment
He also questioned why Nigerians should continue with the current situation when many citizens were unhappy with how the country was being governed.
According to him, his proposed agenda would promote honesty, sincerity and greater participation in government.
What Bala Mohammed and other APM leaders said
Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, who is also the APM national leader, expressed support for Makinde’s presidential ambition
Mohammed described the Oyo governor as hardworking and committed to inclusive leadership, adding that he believed the APM had solutions to Nigeria’s problems.
The party’s vice-presidential candidate, Lawal Daura, also criticised what he described as the growing influence of lies, deceit and hypocrisy in Nigerian politics.
He argued that these practices threatened democracy and said the APM’s Reset Agenda would promote honesty and sincerity among elected officials.
