Nigerian Lady Cries Out After Buying New MTN SIM, Starts Receiving Mysterious UBA Credit and Debit Alerts

A Nigerian lady has called out MTN after repeatedly receiving UBA bank transaction alerts on a newly purchased SIM card.

She said the strange messages include credit and debit transactions involving different amounts, despite never using the number to open a bank account.

Her complaint on social media has sparked mixed reactions, with some blaming MTN’s recycled numbers and others asking her to contact UBA.

A Nigerian lady has raised an alarm after discovering that a newly purchased MTN SIM card was receiving repeated bank transaction alerts from an unknown United Bank for Africa (UBA) account.

The lady, who said she had never used the number to register a bank account, questioned MTN over the development and warned that she could take legal action if the situation landed her in trouble.

Lady questions MTN over strange UBA alerts

In a post circulating on social media, the lady expressed concern over the repeated credit and debit notifications appearing on her new phone number.

She explained that the transactions involved different amounts of money and appeared to be connected to a UBA account belonging to someone she did not know.

The situation reportedly prompted her to contact MTN for assistance, but she claimed that her complaint had not received a satisfactory solution.

Expressing her frustration, she directly addressed the telecommunications company, saying:

“Dear MTN Nigeria, how can I buy a new SIM card that I have not used to open any bank account, yet I keep receiving credit and debit alerts involving different amounts of money from an unknown UBA account? If I get into trouble, I will sue you people oo.”

Her complaint has raised questions about the use of previously registered phone numbers and the possible consequences of receiving financial notifications meant for another person.

Nigerians react as lady shares her experience

The post attracted different reactions, with some social media users suggesting that the number might have previously belonged to another person.

PRINCE FAVOUR. E❤️💙 (@ambassado…) suggested that MTN might have reassigned an old number to the lady.

E³ (@jobseekerscreed), however, argued that she should contact UBA to have the phone number removed from the previous customer’s account profile.

Toma To Shun (@Tmama_Toma) also advised her to write to the bank and report the matter to the police.

Meanwhile, Asiwaju Of Benin (@AsiwajuOfBenin) shared a disturbing account involving his cousin, whom he claimed spent 10 years in prison in Edo State over a case involving possession of a wrong number.

He alleged that the number was connected to a kidnapping case in which the victim was killed after ransom was collected.

Another user, GoodLife (@goodlife7x), urged MTN to address the complaint quickly.
