“Job Never Paid Tithe, That’s Why Satan Death With Him”: Oyedepo’s Son Declares

A son of Bishop David Oyedepo has sparked an online debate after claiming that the biblical Job never paid tithes.

He argued that Job gave to the poor but suggested that Satan dealt with him because he was not a tither.

Nigerians have challenged the claim, with some questioning its biblical basis and others criticising prosperity-focused preaching.

A son of Living Faith Church founder, Bishop David Oyedepo, has sparked reactions online after making a controversial statement about Job, the biblical figure known for his faith and suffering.

The speaker claimed that Job never paid tithes and linked the issue to his suffering, prompting Nigerians to debate the biblical account and the place of tithing in Christianity.

What Oyedepo ’s Son Said About Job and Tithing

In the statement circulating online, the speaker urged Christians to read the Bible and argued that Job did not practise tithing.

Oyedepo ‘s son maintained that Job gave to the poor but never paid tithes, before connecting the issue to the biblical account of Job’s suffering.

“Job was not a tither, Go and read the Bible, Job gave to the poor but Job never paid tithes. This is why Satan dealt with him.”

The statement has attracted attention because it connects Job’s trials to a specific position on tithing, raising questions about the biblical account and the reasons behind his suffering.

Nigerians Question the Biblical Interpretation

Several social media users challenged the statement, with some pointing to the biblical timeline and others arguing that Job’s trials were connected to God’s permission for Satan to test his faith.

One commenter, J.J, explained that Job’s suffering was a test of his faith, while another user, OT, questioned who Job would have been expected to pay tithes to during his time.

The discussion also extended to concerns about prosperity preaching, with some commenters arguing that religious leaders should focus more on salvation and charitable giving.

The statement generated different reactions from Nigerians online.

Or am I missing something? Does the story of Job not clearly detail why what happened to him was allowed to happen by God? Is there some other Job story different?”
