Nigerian comedian and skit maker Broda Shaggi has recounted how a stray bullet struck him while returning from a shoot in March 2026, leaving him hospitalised, undergoing surgery and uncertain whether he would ever perform again.
The entertainer, whose real name is Samuel Animashaun Perry, shared his experience in a YouTube mini-documentary titled Second Chance (The Story), published on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.
Newsflash reported that the comedian was shot, which gained attention in March 2026. The incident allegedly occurred while Shaggi was filming a comedy skit beneath the Sango-Ota Bridge in Ogun State.
At the time, the Ogun State Police Command said it could not confirm that the incident had occurred within its jurisdiction and stated that inquiries were being made to establish the facts.
Recounting the frightening moment, Shaggi said, “We were done shooting and were on our way when we got stuck in a holdup. Suddenly, I heard a loud bang and everywhere went silent. I could see people talking, but I couldn’t hear anything. Then I touched my hip and saw blood. That was when it dawned on me that I had been hit by a stray bullet.”
Describing what happened after he sustained the gunshot injury, Shaggi recalled that he lost consciousness and could not remember how he was transported to the hospital.
“I was totally unconscious till I got to the hospital. So, I didn’t even know how we got to the hospital. But one thing I could remember was me praying till we got to the first hospital where first aid was administered,” he said.
The comedian also described the fear and confusion he experienced while waiting for medical attention.
“A lot was happening at the same time. I was sweating. I was holding my leg, you know, I was seeing blood and all I wanted to hear was a doctor or a nurse telling me Samuel, you’ll be fine,” he recounted.
His description captures the uncertainty he faced immediately after the shooting, when he was dealing with the injury without knowing how seriously it would affect his future.
‘I Wasn’t Sure If I Would Still Be Able to Do All These Things’ Broda Shaggi
For Shaggi, the injury threatened more than his physical well-being. It also raised questions about his ability to continue the career he had spent years building.
The comedian explained that his work involved dancing, singing, playing musical instruments, writing skits and travelling for engagements. Being unable to move freely left him wondering whether he could return to those activities.
Reflecting on his demanding schedule before the incident, he said, “Since 2018 till date I never rest. It’s always back to back. If I’m not writing I’m shooting. If I’m not shooting, I’m in the studio making music. If I’m not making music, I’m travelling for something.”
The sudden interruption was particularly difficult for someone accustomed to working continuously.
Shaggi also opened up about the emotional effect of watching fellow entertainers continue their careers while he remained uncertain about his recovery.

According to his account, he decided to seek additional medical care in Dubai after approximately four months.
He described a significant improvement in his mobility following the operation abroad, saying he was able to stand with support on the second day and walk with crutches on the third day.
The injury had previously left him unable to put his leg on the floor, making even basic movement difficult.
Providing an update on his recovery, Shaggi said, “I’m still using my crutches for now. But there was a period where I couldn’t move without the two crutches. I couldn’t even put my leg on the floor, you know. But now I can walk. I can stand alone without crutches, but I still have to support with the crutches.”
His statement indicates that, although he has made progress, he is still relying on crutches for support.
The comedian has not publicly disclosed every medical detail surrounding the injury, and the precise nature of his treatment should not be inferred beyond what he described in his account.
