Just In: Robert Kabera President Kagame’s Critic found behe@ded in Uganda this 2026

Robert Kabera found behe@ded in Uganda after criticising President Kagame. Police are investigating the k!lling, and his head remains missing.

A former Rwandan army officer who became one of President Paul Kagame’s most vocal critics after fleeing to Uganda has been found behe@ded near Kampala. His head still hasn’t been recovered, and Ugandan police say investigations are still ongoing.

The victim, Robert Kabera, was 50 years old and once held the rank of sergeant major in the Rwandan military. His body turned up on Saturday, October 17, in Kamengo, an area within Mpigi District on the edge of Kampala. As of Monday, October 19, police confirmed there was still no sign of his head.  Robert Kabera

Kabera had left Rwanda back in 2020 and made Uganda his new home. Once there, he didn’t stay quiet — he became increasingly outspoken against Kagame’s government, building a following through his YouTube channel, Major Robert TV. The channel reportedly grew to more than 140,000 subscribers, with hundreds of videos where he regularly criticized Rwanda’s leadership.  Robert Kabera

According to him, he left Rwanda because he feared he’d be persecuted. But the Rwandan military had a different story — they accused him of unlawful s3xual contact with a family member, something he always denied. He insisted the allegations were politically motivated, a way to discredit him.  Robert Kabera

Right now, Ugandan police haven’t pinned down a motive for his k!lling. Police spokesperson Lydia Tumushabe admitted that detectives still don’t have any solid leads pointing to why he was targeted. Another police spokesperson, Kituuma Rusoke, said investigators are also looking back into Kabera’s military history for possible clues.  Robert Kabera

As for Rwanda’s government, they hadn’t said anything publicly about his de@th as of Monday.

This isn’t happening in isolation either — it’s reignited longstanding fears about how unsafe life can be for Rwandan dissidents living abroad. Kagame’s administration has faced years of criticism over its alleged treatment of political opponents, something Rwanda has consistently pushed back against. For now, though, nobody knows exactly who killed Kabera or why, and the investigation is still very much open.
