“Governor Hope Uzodinma said something last week that Governor Alex Otti clearly wasn’t going to let pass without a response.
Uzodinma had put it out there that the South East was solidly behind President Tinubu for 2027—the kind of statement that sounds like it carries more weight than it actually does when you look at who was in the room when it was made. Otti came out publicly and said exactly what needed to be said: no single governor gets to speak for an entire region.
That’s not how it works and he wasn’t about to let the impression stand.” According to him, every politician is free to support whoever they want, but they should speak for themselves — not pretend to represent the entire South East.

While Uzodinma, who leads the APC Governors’ Forum, is pushing for early alignment with Tinubu, Otti — a Labour Party governor — says his loyalty is first to the people who voted for him, not to any premature political arrangement.
During a media briefing in Umuahia, Otti stated bluntly: “You can only speak for yourself, not the South East.”
